Release –Breathe – Refocus can become your daily gift to your self.
Recently I went through an office move. In unpacking my books, I came across a little book that was a gift to me by its author, one of my first mentors in the field of counselling – ‘A little relaxation’ by Dr. Saul Miller, a former clinical and performance psychologist.
Release – Breathe – Refocus is the mantra of the book. This simple exercise is a power breathing break. I have practiced it regularly for the last 20 years.
Research tells us that it is the intensity of the stress levels today that is causing distress to many. We must remember that we are human beings and not human doings.
Release – Breathe – Refocus is a power breathing break – Here is how it works. Allow 2 – 4 minutes for each scheduled break.
Set the stage – Close your eyes and imagine a relaxed place – beach, garden etc… Start by taking a deep breath and releasing all the tension of the day (Release) then (Breathe) in to the count of 5 and breathe out to the count of 5 (Release) ; as you begin
to breathe in again Refocus by saying an empowering thought ( I deserve to succeed or I deserve to feel good) then Release to the count of 5 and Breathe in again to the count of 5 while Refocusing with your empowering thought, release and repeat for a couple of minutes.
Release – Breathe – Refocus will help you stay consciously in control: focused, relaxed and productive.
“The waves never rush, don’t rush the breath, you deserve your time” – Dr. Saul Miller
