Although being self-employed can come with a lot of freedom and benefits, it can also come with a whole load of stress and worry. Trust me I know. Learn to take charge of your work-life.
Being your own boss can be both a blessing, and a curse. It’s important to know how to stay on track to self-care, whether you are a freelancer, an entrepreneur, a professional or whether you telework. If you have trouble incorporating these practices into your daily life, a Vancouver life coach could make it easy to implement a self-care routine.
Stick to a Routine
Creating a routine for yourself from the moment you wake up to the moment you close your laptop to the moment you go to sleep can make all the difference. Self-employed people or people who work from home can easily fall into burnout because their work and life schedules become so blurred. Set boundaries i.e. regular hours and try not to answer emails or phone calls outside of those hours. Create a dedicated work space that is only for work, that you only associate with work and nothing else.
Rest and Exercise
You are your own boss, so it is important to schedule in regular healthy meals and exercise into your work day. And be aware of your mental health. Schedule your exercise and call it a VIP (Very Important Person) meeting. Do not skip it – exercise is for both your physical and mental health – it is rejuvenation time. Preventative maintenance is always better than pushing yourself until it’s too late – Take a power nap (20 – 30 minutes) if you need one! Figure out what is good for your well-being.
Manage Your Finances
Working for yourself oftentimes means having a fluctuating income. Set a monthly budget that meets your minimum revenue needed and then aim for higher income. Be mindful of increasing your targets every 6 -12 months. This will also keep you motivated to regularly look for clients and meet your lifestyle goals.
Leave Your House
When you work alone or from home, it’s easy to close yourself inside your own bubble and forget about the outside world. Try to take regular breaks during your day by going outside for short walks and some fresh air, exercise and make time for friends or group activities! And, if you are working from home, maybe consider venturing to co-working spaces or coffee shops some of the time.
By following these practices, you can easily maintain a balanced lifestyle which will allow you to be more productive, while being able to accept, create and enjoy your free time. If you need the help of a Vancouver life coach, get in touch with me to learn more about how I work.
